International student applicants must submit the following:
- Completed online application for admission
- Admissions essay or personal statement
- All official secondary and postsecondary transcripts, mark sheets or records. Original transcripts and official English translations are required for non-English institutions. Professional credential evaluation may be required for non-U.S. postsecondary academic records.
- Official test scores - TOEFL or IELTS(Chatham code: 2081), iTEP, PTE, ACTFL, Duolingo, or STEP
- SAT and ACT scores (optional)
- One letter of recommendation
- Copy of passport photo page (with identification information)
- Copy of immigration documents (if currently living in the United States)
- Proof of financial support (official bank statement, signed bank letter, or financial guarantee indicating enough funds to cover the first year of education at Chatham).
Transcript Evaluation Policy
Professional credential evaluations are required for credentials from an educational system other than the United States. Applicants are required to have their transcripts evaluated by a foreign credential evaluation service such as NACES, ECE, WES, IEE, IERF, SpanTran. Professional transcript evaluations must be translated into English and show GPA calculation. Any costs incurred for the professional evaluation are the responsibility of the applicant.
If applicants are transferring from a US institution, official college transcripts from all colleges attended must be submitted to Chatham University.
English Language Proficiency Requirements
Students who have studied in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada (not including Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, Australia or an English-speaking Caribbean island may be exempt from submitting English Language Proficiency requirements. All other international applicants must meet one of the following language proficiency requirements for regular admission to Chatham University. Letters of English instruction will not be accepted. English Language Proficiency test scores may not be more than 2 years old.

Conditional Admission based on Language Proficiency
Students with acceptable academic credentials who do not meet language proficiency requirements may be admitted under conditional admission through the English Language Program or the Pittsburgh Pathways Program. All conditionally admitted students are required to take an English placement exam upon arrival and may be required to take supplemental courses.

Proof of Finance
US government regulations require that all students prove the availability of sufficient funding to meet their educational expenses for the first year of study. Each student must consider how they will fund their studies for the entire length of their academic program. To demonstrate the source of your financial support, please scan your original documentation and upload to you application portal. You may need the original documentation when applying to the U.S. Consulate or Embassy for a student visa or to border officials when arriving in the U.S.
Each financial document must be in English. If you cannot supply the document in English, please supply a copy of the document in its original language and submit a professionally certified translation. Your financial documentation must demonstrate the following:
- Date, which can be no more than 6 months in the past
- Name of account holder
- Account type
- Currency
Acceptable financial documents:
- Bank statement (checking or savings account)
- Certified bank letter
- Official letter from loan-issuing agency clearly indicating your loan is ‘approved’ and ‘readily available’
- Letter from scholarship awarding agency, including your name as the award recipient, the amount of the award, duration of award, and terms of the award
Unacceptable financial documents:
- Future employment opportunities
- Value of personal property
- Life insurance policies
- Retirement accounts
- Tax return documents
- Paystubs or payroll statements
Transfer Students
Students who have attended accredited colleges and universities may apply as transfer students. Transfer students must submit all of the application requirements listed above, with the following considerations:
- Secondary school records are not required if applicant will complete 24 credits before matriculation.
- Language Proficiency can be satisfied with completion of 24 credits or more at universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada (not including Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, Australia or an English-speaking Caribbean island
